Resources for the Future (RFF) is an independent, nonprofit research institution in Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement. We are seeking a Development Coordinator to provide support and coordination to help build, shape, grow and meet year over year giving goals for Resources for the Future.

Reporting to the Director of Development Operations, and working closely with the Vice President for Development, the Development Coordinator is charged with supporting RFF’s Development Department through a variety of ongoing projects and ad hoc assignments, but principally assists data- and gift-related processes. Ongoing projects include, but are not limited by, assisting the Director in maintaining donor information systems, including the development database (Raiser’s Edge and NXT) and other online platforms (MailChimp, Asana, Microsoft 365, etc.), gift processing and acknowledgements, data querying and reporting, and providing light administrative support to the VP, including scheduling, task, and correspondence management, including:

  • Supporting multiple operational areas of the Development Department, including the various processes and data needs of “Moves Management” and other fundraising strategies;

  • Assisting the Vice President in coordinating their schedule and executing established procedures related to the VP’s tasks and correspondence;

  • Working with the Director, plays a lead role in day-to-day maintenance of RFF’s donor CRM, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and NXT;

  • Empowered to use their experience in suggesting solutions for technology integration and streamlined data entry, as well as to recommend changes to internal policies and procedures to ensure the quality and integrity of the database;

  • Accurately enter and maintain constituent records; Administer gift process, acknowledgment and reporting based on policies; process all gifts received via mail, credit card, online EFT and securities transfer; generate pledge payment reminders and reports;

  • Work with Director to reconcile monthly gift record keeping with the Finance team;

  • Produce mailing lists, queries, and other reports, and for both internal and external uses;

  • Manage development prospect/donor mail lists in MailChimp and work with communications staff to ensure that marketing products are delivered to the correct mail lists;

  • Assist the Director in executing processes to configure data imports and exports to facilitate integration with other organizational platforms such as MailChimp and Dynamics 365; and,

  • Assist with mailings and other administrative tasks, as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • At least three years of experience in Development in a non-profit and/or academic institution.

  • At least one year of experience managing a relational database in a philanthropic or not-for-profit environment.

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, NXT, Salesforce or similar fundraising database is preferred.

  • Strong background in donor record maintenance and processing with experience in training staff on database protocols and supporting database users.

  • Basic proficiency with financial reporting and budget reconciliation systems and best practices.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • Thrives in a high-performing, fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities occurring simultaneously.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional judgment skills.

  • Exceptional time management skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.

  • Ability to proactively prioritize work, resolve problems and manage projects simultaneously.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, ability to change course quickly based on new insights.

  • Flawless attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
