The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the management and growth of the annual fund program, individual giving area including major gifts and event sponsorships for Chicago Children's Museum. This person is responsible for the attainment of annual revenue goals as well as personally participating in and coordinating the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors.    

   Principle Job Duties and Responsibilities 

Manage and grow annual fund program (50%)  

  • Grow annual fund revenue, including developing a moves management strategy to increase donor base and individual gift amounts; 

  • Collaborate with development team in creating and managing the fundraising strategic plan for the fiscal year; 

  • Strategize new giving opportunities and programs (i.e. grandparents, honor/memorial, planned giving, etc.); 

  • Supervise and work closely with the Development Database and Operations Coordinator to implement fiscal and year-end appeals: (direct mail pieces, email campaigns, member-donor conversion) as well as supervise research and donor relationship management functions; ,  

  • Develop innovative communication strategies and collateral content; 

Manage and grow major gifts program with VP of Development (30%) 

  • Set strategy for major gifts program with VP of Development; 

  • Grow major gift pipeline; 

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward an individual giving portfolio of major gift donors; 

  • Support the major gift work of CCM’s Board of Directors, Auxiliary Board, and Metropolitan Board; 

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and setting financial goals and measurement for major gifts program; 

  • Oversee all special event activities for cultivation, fundraising, and stewardship, including a successful annual gala, with the support of the Fundraising Events Manager and development team;  

 Serve as the main staff liaison for the Auxiliary Board and Metropolitan Board (20%) 

  • Recruit new members and engage current members; 

  • Lead strategies to grow and deepen each Board’s financial impact; 

  • Lead event sponsorship renewals and solicitations, working with the Board, CCM leadership and Fundraising Events Manager. 

Position Qualifications and Abilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 

  • 4+ years fundraising experience with emphasis on annual fund, major gifts and individual giving; 

  • 2+ years’ experience supervising paid staff with an emphasis on coaching, leading and mentoring. 

  • Self-starter and self-sufficient who is detail oriented with a strategic vision; 

  • Creative and entrepreneurial; 

  • Strong work ethic and the desire to thrive in a demanding environment; 

  • Ability to handle changing situations and meet deadlines a must; 

  • Ability to work effectively in a multifaceted, team environment; 

  • Engaging communicator and people person; 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups; 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint 

  • Proficiency in fundraising database, preferably Raiser's Edge; 

  • Proven track record of relationship building and securing major gifts; 

  • Proven track record of donor retention and leading successful annual fund campaigns; 

  • Knowledge of Chicago philanthropic community a plus;  

  • Strong organizational and planning skills as well as demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and effectiveness; 

  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
