Job Description Summary

Montgomery College, located just north of Washington, D.C. in Maryland, seeks a dynamic candidate for a full-time Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 37 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness.

The Director oversees the College’s public grants and sponsored programs. Responsible for the College’s institutional strategy and implementation of federal and state grants. Serves as the College's Sponsored Programs Officer with final review authority on behalf of the President for the development and submission of public grants and related required materials in support of sponsored programs/research initiatives. The successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to working with and learning from a widely diverse community of stakeholders.

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leads the office of grants and sponsored programs. Supervise, evaluate, mentor and guide staff. Delegate assignments. Prepare strategic and annual unit plans including annual budget. Prepare reports.

  • Provide oversight and guidance in executing sponsored program activities and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Crafts, articulates and manages the College's institutional strategy, priorities and implementation objectives for effective development and management of public grants.

  • Monitors federal/public legislation and related activities to anticipate funding opportunities.

  • Reviews and approve all federal/state/municipal grant submissions.

  • Submits all public funded grant proposals. Negotiate, facilitate and secure necessary approvals and agreements from senior leadership of the College.

  • Creates, leads, facilitates and sustains critical partnerships to achieve specific sponsored program objectives and ensure continuing grants success.

  • Secures appropriate external partnership agreements, MOUs and letters of commitment from key grant participants.

  • Facilitates and nurture partnerships to assist College academic leadership in creating and assessing new discretionary public funding stream opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Five years of experience in advancement, development and/or sponsored programs including grant proposal development and grants management.

  • Experience to include three years supervisory experience.

  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local agencies as they relate to grants and sponsored programs, including knowledge of Uniform Guidance for federal funding.

  • Experience writing successful grant proposals and developing grant budgets either individually or on a team

  • Proficient in MS Office applications and collaborative online platforms.

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.

  • Three years of experience in a higher education setting or agency

  • Experience with K-12 and/or higher education grants.
