Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine – (CVM) is a new college at the University of Arizona. We are the only college of veterinary medicine at a public university in the state of Arizona, and one of only 32 colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States. Our innovative DVM program is unlike any other. Our student-centered approach focuses on evidence-based teaching and learning that will prepare our graduates to be day one ready to serve society. For clinical education, we are using a distributive model partnering with local and national veterinary practices. Development for this college will require an experienced development officer who possesses the values of the CVM; Adaptation, Compassion, Determination, Exploration, Inclusion, and Integrity. Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Development (Senior Director) will supervise one current development position and one administrative support position. This individual will lead identification, education, cultivation, and solicitation of major and principal gift prospects, while personally managing a major and principal gift portfolio. This position will be jointly managed by University and Alumni Development Program (UADP) which is managed by contract by the University of Arizona Foundation, as specified in the Development Services and Asset Management Agreement dated August 2016 and the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Senior Director will partner closely with College of Veterinary Medicine leadership, and the University and Alumni Development Program to create and exceed fundraising goals and objectives for the College of Veterinary Medicine. Reporting jointly to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and to the Vice President, Development.

Fundraising

  • Work with College leadership, and the University and Alumni Development Program to develop and implement fund-raising priorities for the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with College of Veterinary Medicine leadership, faculty, board members, alumni, volunteers, patients, donors, and financial professionals.
  • Direct and manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major individual, corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategic plans and set goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for building a portfolio of 50-70 assigned prospects with an emphasis on discovering new hi-capacity prospects and maintain that portfolio to support fundraising goals.
  • After an initial 3 to 6-month on-boarding period, execute an agreed upon metric of 100 current or prospect donor visits and presentation of 20+ proposals per year, with an expectation of $3M+ raised after the initial on-boarding period (with incremental increases after the first year).
  • Utilize the University of Arizona and UADP tools and systems for managing donor, alumni and prospect relationships as resources for planning and for managing and monitoring activities.
  • Utilize acknowledgement, gift receiving, and relationship management systems.
  • Help to promote and maintain a culture of philanthropy across the College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Arizona.
  • Work within all established University of Arizona Foundation guidelines and the University of Arizona Gift policy to establish and maintain necessary internal processes and procedures.
  • Represent the College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Arizona as needed.
  • Manage the identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and principal gifts.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s strategic vision, goals and objectives and a thorough familiarity with its mission, research centers, institutes, programs, and clinical partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with College of Veterinary Medicine’s alumni, grateful clients, community members, volunteers, students, friends, and other constituents.
  • Ability to successfully cultivate new donors at the six- and seven-figure level.
  • Ability to secure philanthropic support for the College of Veterinary Medicine that meets established goals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Generally requires a Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is typically required.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications
Successful experience in planning and managing fundraising campaigns. Experience building advisory boards and creating volunteer infrastructure. Knowledge of academic medicine, higher education, nonprofit, and/or governmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of comprehensive donor databases such as Blackbaud CRM system (Internally known as Lynx).
