Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Associate Director of Annual Giving. Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Associate Director of Annual Giving has primary responsibility for the reunion giving program within the Office of Annual Giving and assists with the planning and implementation of the Kenyon Parents Fund, the annual Bell-A-Thon and annual giving stewardship efforts. We seek a candidate with
experience working with diverse audiences, who will be a partner in our division wide
effort to build a diverse pipeline of engaged and active alumni volunteers and donors.
Day-to-Day responsibility for Reunion Giving Program
Oversee the Reunion Giving Program
- Work with Annual Giving staff members and development officers to recruit reunion committee members.
- Facilitate invitations to serve on the committee and to attend Reunion Planning Weekend, held annually in mid- to late September.
- Facilitate the necessary reports to keep committees informed, engaged and focused.
- Track progress toward goals.
Oversee Reunion Planning Weekend (Will be “virtual” in 2020)
- Create an agenda for the weekend in consultation with Director of Annual Giving.
- Work with Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement to coordinate logistics, including meals, lodging and transportation.
- Prepare materials to support the planning sessions.
- Train committee members as needed to work with classes at the planning weekend.
- Present an overview of the reunion gift process to attendees at the weekend.
Oversee Reunion Gift Committees for classes celebrating their 10th, 15th and 20th reunions (3 classes)
- Provide oversight to the recruitment of the committee members with development officers.
- With committee members, determine gift chair for each reunion class.
- With Director of Annual Giving, provide recommendation on solicitation levels for prospects in their class range and sets goals for class giving and participation.
- Communicate with and motivate gift chairs and committees.
- Send reunion tracking reports as needed or requested.
- Maintain up-to-date volunteer resource materials focused on reunion within volunteer website.
- 20 annual visits (face-to-face or virtual) with young alumni and class years through 2002, to help identify early prospects for cultivation. Some travel may be required after the threat of COVID-19 abates.
Bell-A-Thon and other giving days
- Primary AG liaison for annual giving day (Late March/Early April).
- Along with Dir. of Annual Giving, Asst. Dir. for Student & Young Alumni Giving and Adv. Comms., spearhead this effort for the department.
Maintain the Web presence for the Office of Annual Giving and oversee web-based marketing efforts, in close coordination with Assoc. Dir. of Adv. Comms.
Assist with two Kenyon Fund Executive Committee meetings each year.
With other annual giving staff, develop strategies for successful Kenyon Fund campaigns or challenges, utilizing Give Campus.
With the Director of Annual Giving and team, evaluate and analyze effectiveness of all annual giving programs, paying particular attention to the reunion program.
Kenyon Parents Fund (KPF) and Senior Parent Stretch (SPS)
Secondary responsibility for Parents Fund goals, working with the Dir. of Parent & Family giving and Adv. Comms team on strategy for direct marketing.
- Rate and track parent leadership prospects, in collaboration with Director of Parent and Family Giving and Director of Annual Giving.
- (SPS) Work with senior parent reps on challenge for parents of graduating seniors.
- Work with the Director of Parent and Family Giving and Directors of Leadership Giving and Operations to oversee leadership breakfast at Family Weekend.
- Coordinate participation outreach to non-leadership parents. Work with ADV Comms and Operations Director on execution of direct marketing plan.
- Monitor parent comms and share updates with team members.
Annual Giving Stewardship
- Manage Henry J. Abraham Society for loyal and consecutive donors and develop strategies for stewardship of and developing the society.
- Partner w/ Asst. Dir. of Student & Young Alumni Philanthropy on Gambier Society/YA stewardship and strategy for using it to upgrade.
- Work with Parent & Family giving to launch ABSOC with parents and develop a plan for long term stewardship.
- First time donor cards. Link to Donor Relations & Heidi Boland.
Alumni & Parent Engagement:
- Serve as an ambassador of the College at key donor and alumni events, including on-campus weekends (such as Homecoming, Reunion Planning Weekend, Family Weekend, Reunion Weekend, Commencement Weekend, and Parents Advisory Council meetings) as needed, as well as selected regional events.
- Link to APE counterparts regarding affinity and reunion planning.
- Department Social Media liaison w/ Assoc. Dir of Adv. Comms & APE Counterpart.

- As our alumni and parent populations become increasingly diverse it is imperative that we better understand and engage these important constituencies. Our ideal candidate will have experience with a variety of perspectives and/or affinity groups and will become part of our division-wide conversation on issues of diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of GiveCampus platform and/or experience with crowdfunding initiatives preferred.
- Technologically savvy; ability to learn new software programs and interfaces quickly.

- Bachelor’s degree preferably from a liberal arts college with three to five years of experience in fund-raising or a related field.
- Experience working with high net wealth individuals is desirable, as is experience working with volunteers.
- Must be able to initiate and maintain donor relationships and communications on behalf of the College.
- Demonstrated record of creative problem-solving with examples of successful efforts in building donor confidence and relationships.
- Extraordinary communication skills, both oral and written, necessary to articulate the vision and case of the College.
- Knowledge of database management systems, page layout programs and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work occasional weekends.
- Strong commitment to liberal arts education.
