Development Officer, Planned Giving

The Planned Giving Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding planned gift prospects through a qualified portfolio within a geographic territory, responding to planned giving inquiries, and working collaboratively with special and major gift colleagues as well as local Habitat offices. Duties and Responsibilities: 20% - Portfolio Development You will : 1) manage and grow a portfolio of 200 qualified planned gift prospects from the constituent relationship management (CRM) database within defined geographic territories; 2) assist Special/Major Gift colleagues and local regional Habitats in cultivating and soliciting planned gifts; and 3) respond to inquiries from the planned giving mailbox, website and marketing efforts. 50% - Cultivation You will complete and document 120 substantive calls and/or face-to-face visit per year with planned gift prospects. Substantive calls either include an “ask” for a planned gift or clearly advance the relationship toward an ask Example: present a gift annuity proposal and follow up with an ask for the donor to fund the annuity. 20% - Database Integrity You will keep CRM records updated to demonstrate progress towards goals and track collaborations with other development officers, and secure and record updated biographical data. You will use CRM to prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and evaluate cultivation/solicitation strategy effectiveness. In the process you much keep CRM skills current and stay informed on tax law changes and planned giving techniques. 10% - Local Habitat activities You will encourage and assist local Habitat offices as they establish their own Planned Giving programs by directing them to the Resource Development Expertise Hub for training and working collaboratively with them on complex planned gifts. This collaborative approach may include the preparation of joint gift proposals and joint donor presentations. Required: -Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience -5+ years in fundraising and planned giving. -Fondness for and appreciation of the wisdom and experiences of our more mature citizens; ability to gain their trust. -Excellent listening skills. -Superior presentation and communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively. -Solid understanding of planned giving and significant experience with planned giving conversations. -Attentive to detail and commitment to full utilization of CRM software for recordkeeping. -Unquestionable integrity. -Creative self-starter with high energy level, self-confidence and positive attitude, and the ability to work remotely in an effective manner during the COVID-19 pandemic. -Passion for and commitment to the HFH vision. -Working knowledge of planned giving techniques. -Ability and fondness for working collaboratively with colleagues. -Ability to work in a dynamic environment requiring the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
