Purpose of Position:

Provides leadership and direction to the VNSW Foundation, executing activities designed to support the Foundation mission and maximize fundraising opportunities in support of VNSW programs and future needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with the Foundation Board, manages all fund development activities including the development and implementation of all Foundation policies, procedures and operations designed to create an effective and legally ethical Foundation function.
  2. Cultivates strong relationships with the Foundation Board of Directors to foster long term relationships and secure gifts to the Foundation, providing information and staff support as needed.
  3. Collaborates with the VNSW CEO to secure funding sources that support the mission of the organization.
  4. Oversees all fund appeals including direct mail, in-person asks, bequests and planned giving, and business, foundation and government grants. Oversees all gift acknowledgements. Administers the donor database with staff who may be directed to record and update the donor database on a routine basis. 
  5. Acts as the principal steward of the Foundation by developing and implementing a stewardship program designed to build long term relationships with key donor segments based on mission cultivation.
  6. Actively seeks and develops a diverse donor base of individuals from business, foundation, and community and government segments. Researches funding sources and trends to position the Foundation for potential access to new revenue opportunities.
  7. Directs and supervises all special events, including event activities, identification of event fundraising goals, development of committee structure, and oversight of invitation lists and printed materials. Fosters enthusiastic engagement of event volunteers.
  8. Tracks the Foundation’s effectiveness and impact as measured against established goals and regional or national benchmarks for development functions of similar size. Provides quarterly reports on progress towards these goals to the Foundation Board, using established metrics to be part of the annual goal-setting for the Foundation.
  9. Develops and implements the annual operating budget to support Foundation objectives.
  10. Schedules, prepares and coordinates all routine Foundation meetings, developing Foundation meeting agendas with Foundation Board input and recording minutes of meetings.
  11. Develops a strategic marketing plan to support Foundation goals and objectives.
  12. Develops key partnerships for the Foundation by promoting VNSW visibility and welfare through participation and membership in community forums, civic organizations and activities aligned with the Foundation mission.
  13. Leverages all forms of social media such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram, linkedin and other emerging social technologies focused to increase brand awareness and philanthropic support.
  14. Performs other related duties as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  1. BA/BS in related field is required. Masters in Philanthropy and Development, Nonprofit Management and/or Healthcare Administration is preferred. Professional certification is strongly preferred.
  2. At least five years of direct experience in development.
  3. Demonstrated leadership in organizational management with strong marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage stakeholders from a wide range of diverse cultures.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to use a persuasive approach one-to-one with contributors and in group presentations.
  5. Demonstrated success working with Board members and the ability to cultivate philanthropic relationships to increase contributions to the Foundation.
  6. Uses an action-oriented, adaptable and innovative approach to meeting the identified needs of the Foundation.
  7. Possesses personal passion to support the Foundation’s mission and objectives.
  8. Must have a valid driver’s license.
