Reports to Board of Directors
The Hayward Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and charismatic Executive Director to enhance and grow our member-based organization.
The mission of the Chamber is to promote a favorable business climate for our membership and provide leadership to improve the economy and quality of life in the Hayward area.
The Chamber is an active and highly respected organization with approximately 450 members.
Position Responsibilities
Establish, coordinate, and appropriately delegate to staff and volunteers, the strategies and tactics necessary to implement and advance the organizational goals and objectives, including, but not limited to: retaining and increasing membership through programs, services, and recruitment; providing relevant programs and services to meet member organizations' needs and interests; and generating revenues sufficient to, or exceeding what is necessary to support and sustain the Chamber's mission and operations.
Cultivates productive relationships with city, county, state and federal governments and their elected officials and staff and other business organizations to promote the stated Chamber goals.
Engage activity in fostering strategic partnerships and implementing public relations strategies to elevate the Chamber’s visibility and bolster its reputation as a leading advocate for local business.
Maintain a high level of communication among the Chamber officers, directors, staff, committees, and members as well as between the Chamber and the general public.
Coordinate the activities of the Chamber committees and task forces with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors and provide necessary personnel and staff support. Execute all necessary contracts need to meet Chamber goals.
Assist Executive Committee in identifying, recruiting, and onboarding diverse and qualified professionals to serve on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and various committees, fostering a dynamic and inclusive leadership network representative of the community’s interests and industries.
Support the Chamber’s interests in favorable business policies, and legislative matters that ensure a business-friendly environment.
Provide effective leadership for all staff activities of the Chamber including the hiring,
administration of employees with the express consent of the Executive Board.
Prepare and implement an annual budget and business plan for the Chamber and coordinate expenditures consistent with the budget.
Report to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors on a monthly basis, informing of various problem areas and activities throughout the community that may affect the business sector as well as monthly status of membership and finances.
Develop, implement, and monitor chamber yearly financial budget in a manner that is accurate and easy for board members to read and understand. Work with the appropriate board members to identify areas of potential shortfall or overruns and offer suggestions as to appropriate corrective measures.
Oversees all Chamber publications, websites, apps, and social media.
Creatively develop and implement methods to grow non-dues revenue to support Chamber initiatives and programs for membership value and resources.
Must have flexibility to work night and weekend events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, or related program of study.
Minimum five years demonstrated leadership or administrative experience with a Chamber of Commerce, or related business management experience. Previous position with an emphasis on networking, sales, and collaboration is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to continually grow a non-profit organization, including providing examples of innovative fund-raising and sponsorships.
Successful history securing grants from various sources.
Must be an excellent communicator (written, verbal and presentation skills) with emphasis on attention to detail, media training and experience a plus.
Highly motivated, results oriented, creative thinker.
