Position Summary:

The Camping Services Director is responsible for administering the total operations of YMCA Camp Silver Creek & YMCA Camp Greider. The Camping Services Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, the camp residential environment (Camp Silver Creek), volunteer and staff development, financial development, and day to day operations. The Camping Services Director, in coordination with the CEO and COO, maintains effective communications and collaborations with alumni, financial funders and supporters, and community agencies and regulators. Given the unique quality of the summer camp environment, the Camping Services Director role during summer camp is a hands-on leadership role, exemplifying the highest YMCA values and standards. The Camping Services Director will be responsible for planning programs during the offseason as well as working with the school districts and other organizations.

Requirements:

Preferred Entry Criteria:

  • Four Year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum age of 25 preferred.
  • Three to five years YMCA experience, preferably in Camping.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years in hands on delivery of youth programming, recreation, or related fields.
  • Should be familiar with ACA standards and accreditation process and must complete ACA director's course upon hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversight of all Family YMCA Marion and Polk Counties Camp sites and related programming.
  • Recruitment, hiring, and training of all camp staff.
  • Oversees and manages camp transportation's needs.
  • Actively participate in community events to promote YMCA Camping and grow the programs.
  • Consistently providing prompt assistance, which includes building and maintaining a healthy professional relationship with summer camp families, staff, and local community partners.
  • Support and contribute to a safe, clean camp environment for staff and guests.
  • Maintain knowledge of association's policies and procedures, risk management, and safety practices and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for supporting the overall association's initiatives through camping services.
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality, the core values of the YMCA, and joy in working with youth of all ages.
  • Ensures all staff including oneself is up to date and fully trained properly.
  • Performs public relation duties; responds to complaints; adheres to all YMCA policy and procedures.
  • Must maintain both Camp Silver Creek and Camp Greider’s ACA Accreditation.
  • Coordinates facilities and programs with department staff and other agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to prepare, maintain, and present accurate reports and records.
  • Passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.
  • Works with camp committees.
  • Must be able to attend all meetings that are required for Leadership staff and Camp Director.
  • Possess the ability to plan, program, and fundraise beyond summer camp seasons.
  • Coordinate and manage outdoor school program.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
