The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform research and writing for the Project on Prosperity and Development at CSIS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Contributes to the intellectual vitality of the Program by serving as a nationally-recognized thought leader whose work embodies the CSIS principles of scholarly independence, objective analysis, and political bipartisanship.
  • Conceptualizes and actualizes new projects, including securing necessary sponsors and funding for efforts.
  • Manages the substantive and operational priorities of sizable projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborates effectively with the Director and staff of PPD and CSIS to capitalize on synergies within the Center.
  • Produces content-rich proposals and publications that contribute to analysis of key policy debates in Congress, the Executive Branch, and the international sphere.
  • Represents CSIS on a national/international level in media outlets, at conferences and workshops, and among a broad range of stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or related field and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience analyzing development policy, and foreign policy and a demonstrated interest in policy-related research.
  • Knowledge of development issues and future trends.
  • Outstanding written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to write scholarly research reports, concept papers, and short analyses independently and on deadline.
  • Proven ability to direct working groups, organize conferences and manage projects.
  • Proven ability to contribute effectively as a member of an analytic team.
  • Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders, media, governmental entities, and the general public; Social media presence a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of the international and Washington development policy communities.
