About the role:

The Director of People will be deeply committed to PJMF’s purpose to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all through the advancement of AI and data solutions. In this role, you will drive the roadmap for our next phase of people programs, organizational expansion, and workplace transformation to meet the evolving needs of the Foundation. In addition, you will aim to facilitate practices that allow us to be greater than the sum of our individual parts as an organization, regularly bridging best practices across the philanthropic and private sectors to pursue justice within our own virtual space and in the broader field. The position will report to the Vice President of Operations.

How you will make an impact in the first six months:

    • Define strategic objectives related to People and culture, particularly focusing on organization-wide mission alignment, upskilling and support for team managers, and evaluating needs for early intervention across culture practices.
    • Evaluate payroll, benefits, and HRIS/talent/performance systems to assess future state aspirations and prioritize implementations as well as budgeting for next-generation programs
    • Design and implement performance management procedures and policies and implement people surveys to better understand engagement and needs.
    • Scale workplace practices around our IDEA framework; assume the role of PJMF’s internal champion for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, continuing to advance this work across our organization as we grow and align People practices to drive attraction, engagement, and retention
    • Provide direct support across the team on HR related issues, as well as support professional development and engagement.

Continuing your impact after the first six months:

    • Uphold a culture that reinforces our purpose and values, engages multilateral feedback, embraces and is resilient to growth, and attracts incredible new talent to accelerate a continuous improvement mentality
    • Partner with the Recruitment Manager to optimize the employee life cycle: From sourcing through onboarding and beyond. Identify, create, and shore up gaps in our current approach to the various stages of the employee relationship
    • Create a Talent Development program with individual (e.g., coaching opportunities and feedback) and group solutions (e.g., training programs) to improve capabilities at all levels of the organization
    • Review and improve performance management approaches to develop and retain existing staff. Design, develop, and implement performance review templates and methodologies
    • Design organizational structures and career pathways that encourage effective operations, and also support mutually beneficial growth opportunities for maturing employees and efficient succession and contingency planning
    • Champion organizational development (OD) initiatives and other large-scale organization-wide changes in response to changes in the external environment and philanthropic strategy
    • Develop scalable learning and development programs for team members at every level, with the goal of growing capabilities, knowledge, and up-leveling leadership and management skills
    • Create, identify, and deliver learning tools and resources as sources of knowledge across the organization
    • Continue to build, lead and develop the People team as a partner and subject matter expert to ensure alignment with the company and evolving philanthropic challenges
    • Provide clear, meaningful direction and motivation towards objectives, as well as the necessary resources to be successful
    • Mentor, develop and coach the performance of team members

What you will need to succeed:

    • Experience - demonstrated experience in People Operations, HR Business Partner, and/or HR management experience roles with a proven track record of scaling organizations and people teams within high-growth environments
    • Communication - Stellar communication and collaboration skills, able to work up, down, and across the organization and effectively problem solve and influence at all levels
    • Capabilities - analytical and data-driven approach but willingness and ability to function in ambiguity and think creatively about problem-solving and achieving goals
    • Results-oriented - Adopter of project management methodologies with the ability to create clarity in expectations, accountability in action, and reliable in outcomes in people programs
    • Cultural alignment - an advocate for justice in the workplace who possesses a wide breadth of success stories around how you’ve fostered inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible work cultures
    • Passion - genuine enthusiasm for building a better future in the digital era and ensuring that the benefits of technological advancement are shared by all

    • Competitive Salary – We anticipate the starting salary for this role to be $205,000, with flexibility based on the experience you bring
