Institutional Support Coordinator

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $79,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

Full Job Description

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world, is looking for an experienced professional to join our Development team full-time as Institutional Support Coordinator. EFF is based in San Francisco, CA.
The ideal candidate is a strong and compelling writer who possesses excellent organizational skills and is meticulous with details, follow-up, and managing multiple deadlines and priorities. In coordination with the Associate Director of Institutional Support, this position will interact with EFF executive team members–as well as finance and program staff–to shape and articulate EFF’s work into successful funding opportunities.
We value candidates who bring diverse experiences and perspectives, professional and otherwise, to our team and to EFF as a whole. If you can add value to EFF’s Development team, please apply.
What You’ll Do
This position will spend about equal time in these three areas:

  • Writing and Editing - Prepare compelling and accurate letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports to institutional funders, especially foundations. Assist with gathering and incorporating information and feedback from EFF staff. Draw from EFF’s external communications and internal documents, and ensure materials closely align with funder priorities and requirements.
  • Research - Research grant opportunities and background information on other institutional support prospects. Engage with EFF staff to collect internal metrics (as determined by Associate Director and Deputy Managing Director), and identify other organizational updates relevant for fundraising purposes. Prepare supplementary materials for proposals and reports.
  • Administration - Maintain and manage accurate records using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and shared files. Accurately track due dates, manage shared calendars, and initiate and complete projects in a timely manner. Assist in managing relationships with institutional supporters, and maintain relationships with a portfolio of approximately 8-12 organizational members and event sponsors. Coordinate virtual conference calls and other engagement opportunities (for an estimated 15-40 participants each) once or twice a year.

Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves)

  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Detail-oriented, strong organizational and time management skills, and proficient in using online databases, spreadsheets, and word processing tools. Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Able to learn and articulate EFF’s mission, positions, and work. Able to understand and articulate complex and nuanced digital rights issues, including technology, legislation, and court cases. Knowledge of the tech industry is preferred, but not required.
  • Able to positively and collaboratively resolve conflicts and overcome challenges. Demonstrates care and respect toward coworkers, outside partners, members of the public, funders, and others with whom this role interacts. Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences including race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Relevant experience in the fund development field, including use of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 or CiviCRM, as well as grantee portals such as Fluxx.
  • Preferred: Significant experience in fund development, including grant writing, grants management, and event sponsorships.

What Else You Should Know
This position currently allows for a hybrid of remote and in-person work in San Francisco. Applicants seeking to work entirely remotely will not be considered for this role. The compensation for this position is $79,000 to $85,000.
EFF is a great place to work! We offer a supportive and empowering environment, along with an excellent benefits package including housing cost assistance, student loans assistance, medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 403(b)(7) retirement savings program with matching, paid time off, holiday benefits, paid parental leave, a dog-friendly workplace, and more.
As an advocacy organization, EFF is committed to being part of a diverse community. Diversity of life experiences makes a big difference in how we identify and litigate legal issues, design privacy-enhancing software, and organize our activism. To that end, we deliberately seek applicants with different perspectives, identities, and experiences to build an inclusive workplace to better inform our advocacy and defense of freedom in our digital world. EFF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people of all races, genders, ages, abilities, orientations, ethnicities, and national origins to apply. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
Applications (cover letter and resume) are being accepted now. Review will begin on January 8, 2023. After that date, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Please know we value hearing about you, so applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Candidates advancing to final interviews will be asked to provide a short writing sample and three professional references (please do not submit these materials with the initial application).
