The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world, is looking for an experienced professional to join our Development team full-time as Institutional Support Coordinator. EFF is based in San Francisco, CA.
The ideal candidate is a strong and compelling writer who possesses excellent organizational skills and is meticulous with details, follow-up, and managing multiple deadlines and priorities. In coordination with the Associate Director of Institutional Support, this position will interact with EFF executive team members–as well as finance and program staff–to shape and articulate EFF’s work into successful funding opportunities.

What You’ll Do
This position will spend about equal time in these three areas:
- Writing and Editing - Prepare compelling and accurate letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports to institutional funders, especially foundations. Assist with gathering and incorporating information and feedback from EFF staff. Draw from EFF’s external communications and internal documents, and ensure materials closely align with funder priorities and requirements.
- Research - Research grant opportunities and background information on other institutional support prospects. Engage with EFF staff to collect internal metrics (as determined by Associate Director and Deputy Managing Director), and identify other organizational updates relevant for fundraising purposes. Prepare supplementary materials for proposals and reports.
- Administration - Maintain and manage accurate records using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and shared files. Accurately track due dates, manage shared calendars, and initiate and complete projects in a timely manner. Assist in managing relationships with institutional supporters, and maintain relationships with a portfolio of approximately 8-12 organizational members and event sponsors. Coordinate virtual conference calls and other engagement opportunities (for an estimated 15-40 participants each) once or twice a year.
Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves)
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Detail-oriented, strong organizational and time management skills, and proficient in using online databases, spreadsheets, and word processing tools. Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills.
- Able to learn and articulate EFF’s mission, positions, and work. Able to understand and articulate complex and nuanced digital rights issues, including technology, legislation, and court cases. Knowledge of the tech industry is preferred, but not required.
- Able to positively and collaboratively resolve conflicts and overcome challenges. Demonstrates care and respect toward coworkers, outside partners, members of the public, funders, and others with whom this role interacts. Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences including race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability and socio-economic circumstance.
- Relevant experience in the fund development field, including use of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 or CiviCRM, as well as grantee portals such as Fluxx.
- Preferred: Significant experience in fund development, including grant writing, grants management, and event sponsorships.

This position currently allows for a hybrid of remote and in-person work in San Francisco. Applicants seeking to work entirely remotely will not be considered for this role. The compensation for this position is $79,000 to $85,000.
